International Policy of the Methodist University of Piracicaba

 

The International Relations Office - IRO is a department linked to the president’s office of the Methodist University of Piracicaba - Unimep, established in 1993 and focused on the coordination and support of international education and international institutional relations. Based on the review of the experiences accumulated by the IRO, the valorization of the Methodist tradition and in the international mission of Unimep, and recognizing the challenges and opportunities in the globalization within education,  Unimep has set new directions and new policies for the area of ​​international relations.

For this, Unimep develops a series of initiatives:

Unimep International - overall planning and advice to the president’s office, the academic  and administrative departments.

Projects and Partnerships- projects of cooperation with universities and institutions from various countries in the areas of teaching, research, extension and culture.

Events and visits - support for the holding of conferences, seminars and activities in Brazil and abroad, as well  the reception of visitors from several countries.

Scholarships and Opportunities - study programs, internships and exchanges abroad for students, staff, faculty and community as a whole.

Guidelines for the Work Plan:

Taking advantage of "the potential, opportunities and challenges related to place and effective participation of Unimep at the Methodist Education System, especially the Latin American Association of Methodist Education Institutions (ALAIME) and the World Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities related to the  Methodist Church (IAMSCU) "(p. 27).

Recognizing "the challenges perceived in the context of the Brazilian society, Latin America and the world, situated between the extremes of a structural social exclusion and a technological development of high speed, setting new standards for the production process of learning and the educational process of training. (p. 27-28).

Being guided in the paradigm of  the "World Declaration on Higher Education, the World Conference on Higher Education held by UNESCO in 1998 under the theme 'Higher Education in the Twenty-first Century: Vision and Action" (p. 28).

"Enhancing the national and international exchange of the University with other educational and research institutions, seeking academic and scientific assistance in order to maintain constant exchange of experience and update of knowledge" (p. 30).

"Extending the interaction of different segments of the University to the region, a process that leads to take their challenges and to become agents of  its development, taking advantage of the new possibilities opening up, for example, with MERCOSUR" (p . 55).
